Electric Fence Insulators

Insulators are a fundamental component of any electric fence. They are made from a non-conductive material, such as porcelain or plastic and form a barrier between the electrified wire and its support material to prevent current leakage to the ground. Plastic insulators are the most common type of insulator used on electric fences. They are cheap and easy to fit.

Batersuarg offers an extensive range of durable, UV-resistant plastic electric fence insulators for use with a variety of fence posts. All Batersuarg insulators feature long leakage paths and protective shields to achieve optimum performance from today's high powered energizers.

Electric Fencing insulators allow you to fasten electrified wire, polywire, tape or rope to posts without losing energy through the post. There are many styles to choose from this is because the insulator must match both the type of wire, polywire, tape or rope and the type of post being used.

You will also need to consider whether you want screw in insulators or nail on insulators and/or corner insulators. Corner insulators are vital in providing insulation but also help to create tension in the fence.

Good positioning of insulators is very important. This will ultimately mean LOW MAINTENANCE of your tape, rope, polywire and wire and GOOD CONDUCTIVITY through your fence. In turn this equals SAFE animals and PROTECTED land - simple!

An insulator's primary role is to securely hold the fence line with out power leaking to the post and then the ground.  A well designed insulator will hold the line securely so that it will not wear the tape, rope or wire when moved by the wind.

Corner insulators and end tensioners are used to take the strain of a tensioned fence line through changes of direction and at ends.  These insulators can help give a fence better tension and so you can use fewer plastic fence posts and at greater distances apart.

Off-set insulators hold the line away from the post giving extra distance from hedges and walls and an additional distance to prevent rubbing and chewing.  Double off-set insulators are particularly popular for keeping horses apart and away from fencing.
